The First Avenger   by Rae Basa

Captain America was created in 1941 during World War 2, his attire is made to look like an American flag. This hero sports an indestructible red white and blue shield that he can throw as a weapon. To date Marvel Entertainment has sold over 210 million Capitan America comic books around the world to children of every age group.

Joe Simon and Jack Kirby came up with the idea for Capitan America while developing a hero figure to fight the evil of the time. In the story our hero is really Steve Rogers, who desperately want to serve his country, but is rejected by the army due to his health condition. His only chance is to take an experimental drug call the "Super Soldier Serum". The experiment is a triumph and Steve is transformed into a perfectly healthy and fit soldier ready for battle. Armed only with a shield, his super strength, and smarts he is called on to deal with many evils.

Captain America volume 5 #25 was supposed to be the issue where Steve Rogers died. Rogers was targeted by a hidden assailant from a building across the street. Although Rogers already discovered the hired gun before the actual shooting, he was being carried away in handcuffs at the time. This was to mark the end of Marvel's mini series called 'Civil War'. The death of Captain America had a comparable effect in the comic book world as his red, white and blue counterpart in the DC world, but to a lesser extent. But just like the caped crusader, Rogers was later purported to be living. The value of issue #25 quickly dropped after it was later uncovered that Rogers was not dead.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" is the latest super hero movie to hit the big screen. In the movie fans will learn how Steve is changed into Captain America after enrolling in a top secret experiment to make a super human warrior. Captain America wages war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the wicked Red Skull.
