Reviewing Broken Storm Windows
When you surf the net you will find a lot of articles about consumer rating for replacement windows but today I want to look at something different.
Do not start with the replacement of your storm windows until you have all the necessary tools in place. The first thing to make sure you have is the pliers, tempered glass that is measured, gloves, glazing compound, a putty knife, brush, safety goggles and a trash container for the glass that can be thrown away.
The first thing to do is to remove the caulking. You can use a putty knife or any flat instrument for this. Save glazers points if they are there. Once you’ve done that try to remove the glass. Just make sure you have your gloves and goggles on you. Brush chips or slivers away. You need to then accurately measure the space where the window will go. Measure the top, bottom and sides.
You should see a place where you can fit the glass. This is the part to be measured. Make sure the galss is not too tight nor too loose. You can make sure of this by leaning a 1/8 inch space on all sides as you take your measurements. Fit the glass into the frame; this might take a little time doing.
Replace old glazier's points if the window had them. Take the glazing compound, if it is on the dry side, roll it around in your bare hand to soften it; if it is fresh it should be soft.
Spread the glazing compound as neatly as you can around the window using the putty knife sealing it into the wooden or metal frame. You should make sure that all sides especially the corners have enough spread. View from the other side you should not see calking. You can clean any caulking spill on the following day and then leave everything to set – for about a week.
By the way if you find this to be a bit over the top just find a window replacement contractor to offer some assisance.
As you can see replacing broken storm windows is not that bad. All you need to do is to equip yourself with some basic information and off you go. It is also vital to look for information about best replacement windows.
There are a number of scams online so make sure you are very careful while looking for the information. I normally recommend using Google to find some very useful sights but you just use any search engine that you like as long as it has a good reputation when it comes to providing accurate search results.
