Catch the Best Action Films in High Definition   by Jon Jacobson

Over the last century, technology has rapidly become more and more advanced. The quality in which films have been created and released to the public has been no exception to this trend, as Hollywood films have evolved from soundless black-and-white pictures to incredibly detailed features in high definition. Americans these days want to be able to watch every film in the best quality possible, and fortunately, old films continue to be restored and re-released in the highest quality possible. While every film that is released in HD can be incredibly exciting to watch, the best films to watch in this capacity are action movies. Here are five of the best action films that have been re-released in the best quality available. Look for them on your satellite TV channels.

5. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings - This is the first installment of Peter Jackson's epic trilogy. It sets the stage for the adventure as Frodo is bestowed with the seemingly impossible task of destroying the ring that could give the dark lord the power to destroy all of Middle Earth. The action unravels as Frodo's is joined by the Fellowship who fight off enemies at Frodo's side to make sure he can complete his task. This is an incredible movie to view as Jackson's mix of action and special effects is seamless.

4. Mission Impossible - Tom Cruise and Brian De Palma teamed up to create this attention-grabbing movie that follows the story of a CIA agent (played by Cruise) who is attempting to find a traitor within the organization. Cruise is continually put in risky and confusing situations and has to attempt to piece together the puzzle. Watch this entertaining story of betrayal on your satellite TV channels.

3. The Matrix - Keanu Reeves leads this mind-opening film that questions the meaning of life. Fortunately, the film is easy and enjoyable to watch thanks to several impressive action sequences. Reeves discovers that everyone is living in an alternative world but that a few people have the ability to break into the real world. In the real world, most people are slaves who are being used for their energy, while evil agents attempt to keep them controlled and a few lucky people have escaped to become the resistance.

2. Gladiator - Russell Crowe's acting really shines in this action-packed film about a general who is out to avenge the murder of his wife and child. Crowe's character becomes imprisoned and has to continually fight to the death against other gladiators in frequent matches. This is a very exciting film to watch and all of the action is greatly enhanced through the high-quality picture and sound available with the high definition version.

1. The Godfather - Francis Ford Coppola's classic masterpiece is considered by many to be the best film ever created. It's certainly a highly entertaining work that has greatly influenced the rest of the Hollywood industry, and it's a film that can't be missed. The Godfather tells the story of the Corleone family, which is going through a significant transition as its mob boss father runs into health problems and has to give control to his son. His son has never wanted to be a part of the "family business," but he gets involved when the family is put at risk by other mob families.
