How To Make a Popular Children's Program - Copy Ben 10
The children’s TV program Ben 10 has been voted the most popular in a toys & programs survey completed by Sky.The Cartoon Network has hit gold with this latest super hero which they can add to their long list of hits.
4-10 year was the age group that the survey targeted and there where around 6,000 kids asked. As well as showing that Ben 10 was the current number one, they also revealed that it is one of the most popular programs there has ever been. The viewing levels were 70% and the amount of children who gave it their top vote was 45%. Previous winners include Pokémon, Power Ranges, Baby Walker, Rug Rats, and Telly Tubbies. Although these did not match the same voting levels.
Arguable the most powerful superhero ever, Ben 10 has the ability to turn into anything he wishes using his magical watch. The fact that Ben finds himself in battle with a new foe every episode has caused some criticism from critics who are anti-violence. However, producers pointed out that the program was not gratuitously violent and has always been light-hearted.
Ben 10 may not be at the top spot for long if the BBC have their way as they are soon to release Hector The Dragon. Their latest product see a werewolf-like transformation of a small boy into a dragon every full moon. He's not a bad dragon however, he's a misunderstood one that takes on the role of town-protector from any other nasty creatures that come out on the same night. Hector, as you can imagine, has a lot of trouble keeping up with school work and explaining his odd behaviour to friends and family.
As well as the revenue that shows generate on their own, their viewing figures effect other markets as well. The amount of merchandise sales generated is directly proportional the popularity of the program. As merchandised childrens toys is a multi-million dollar industry, the competition will always be strong.
